Omari McCarthy

Originally from Handsworth in Birmingham, Omari graduated in 2013 from the BA (HONS) Digital Animation Course at Falmouth University with the career goal of becoming a Writer/ Producer/ Showrunner. In children's, Omari has written for DOG SQUAD, PJ MASKS, JOJO & GRAN GRAN, LOVE MONSTER, and live action preschool series BIFF CHIP & KIPPER and NEWTON AVENUE. In adult scriptwriting, Omari won the Triforce Creative Network’s Writer Slam competition in 2019 and developed an original drama called “Once Upon A Time In Handsworth” with Lydia Hampson at Amazon Studios. In 2020/21 he shadowed on series 2 of GANGS OF LONDON and several new projects; co-writing the live action feature film CLAUDIA and developing an new animated series for Gaumont Animation and Silvergate Media and developing new live action series with Beano Studios, Tall Story Pictures and BBC Studios. Omari was selected for Bafta Crew 2019, BBC Writers Room London Voices 2020, BBC Studios Writers' Workshop 2021.
 
Omari’s debut short Film RESULTS DAY which he both wrote and directed has been officially selected for the Rhode Island International Film Festival (2023), the Flatpack Film Festival (May 2024) , the Wolverhampton Film Festival 2024 (May 2024) and the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival (June 2024) and was the winner of The Jan NÄ›mec Award for Best Debut at the St Andrews Film Festival 2023.
